The new concept hotel opens in Birmingham City Centre in March 2012 and is the flagship development in a new chain of UK city centre hotels. It combines 174 bedrooms, business services, a restaurant, bar and street cafe.
Signlex aided the hotel’s imposing presence after being awarded the contract by construction group Galliford Try, to manufacture and install LED internally illuminated high level and lower level signs to compliment the architecture which gives the building its striking presence on Albert Street in Birmingham.
A triangular site on a slope has led to a design with dramatic angular geometry and simple style with limestone and black granite cladding.
Simon Belton, Managing Director from Signlex says:
‘We are delighted to have been successful in winning this contract to identify the first Hotel LaTour in the UK with illuminated signage . It has been an interesting and challenging installation programme due to timescales and specialist access requirements. All teams involved on this project are particularly looking forward to seeing the end result as far as construction is concerned and the start of business for this fantastic new hotel in March 2012.”

Signlex are currently working with main contractor Galliford Try in a well
planned programme of works that will result in ‘Hotel La Tour’ becoming a
prominent name on Birmingham’s skyline. No fewer than five sets of
internally illuminated logos will identify the first hotel of a new chain
that is set to emerge in major cities across the UK over the next five
years. White LED illumination has been used in a range of three dimensional
signs designed to illuminate through the letter faces or from the rear
creating a ‘halo’ of light with the signs viewed in silhouette.
