Twelve months after transforming the centre with new signage and wall graphics to identify outdoor activities, enhance the indoor education facilities and rename the student accommodation buildings, Signlex was appointed to assist in the modernisation of the reception area.

A design brief was presented to us by Ampersand Associates and with the aid of samples and a range of print solutions, we worked collaboratively with Lynton Shopfitters and Ampersand, to transform the former reception into a bright, colourful, open space that will welcome thousands of visitors every year.

Royal College of Psychiatrists

Office interior design and fit-out experts AreaSq commissioned Leeds-based consultants, Signlex to provide complete signage solutions for The Royal College of Psychiatrists at their brand new headquarters.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the professional body responsible for education, training, setting and raising standards in psychiatry. Originally based at two separate sites, the College searched for premises that would consolidate all departments in one grand building. 21 Prescott Street in London’s E1 provided the perfect location with 50,000 sq ft over six floors.

Ian Brown, Project Manager from AreaSq says:

“We were commissioned by the Royal College of Psychiatrists to design and fit-out the premises. Having worked with Signlex on a number of other projects which included large format branding display and window artworks, we drafted them in again to advise on, and install the finishing touches to the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ building. For this project, works included large format branding displays, a bespoke three sided totem which appears at the entrance, brushed stainless steel floor indicators for each floor, a stainless logo to the reception wall and a vinyl logo to the first floor conference room stage wall.”

“Now finished, we are very proud of the way it looks. With Signlex’s advice, the branding displays are stunning and stylish.”

Simon Belton, Managing Director of Signlex says:

“We were delighted to be contracted by AreaSq again to work in such an amazing building. The contractors and AreaSq have cleverly blended the old with the new and the result is a place of work and study, literally fit for a king.”

Specialist decorative solutions for Queensway Medical Centre

Specialist decorative solutions for Queensway Medical Centre

Queensway Medical Centre in Hatfield, Hertfordshire is a multi-function health clinic which has received an extensive refurbishment that includes structural alterations, new roof, an extension and a completely new layout.

Signlex was commissioned to provide decorative items for the interior. The team utilised state-of-the-art materials in order to prevent the stereotypical NHS sterile ‘white box’ appearance. Part of the design requirement was to ‘break territory’ and so the multi-function clinical spaces that are booked by the hour, each have a strong colour identity (red, blue, and yellow etc). The clinicians’ trolleys are kept in a dedicated caddy store that allows them to mobilise their job specific items. The first floor has been converted into an open plan area which also enables the administration teams to ‘hot-desk’.

The medical centre managers wanted to continue the bold theme into the common areas and circulation spaces where we installed a 4m wide, full height wall mural and ceiling tiles printed with a sky effect – the tile surfaces are all wipe-able to avoid the risk of infection. These tiles have also been installed in the group session room where the walls are painted powder blue. The overall effect opens up these areas and adds interest to patients and visitors and creates a cohesive look.
